Catalysts design for higher alcohols synthesis by CO2 hydrogenation: Trends and future perspectives

Global warming due to the accumulation of atmospheric CO2 has received great attention in recent years. Hence, it is urgent reduce emissions into atmosphere and develop sustainable technologies for a circular carbon economy. In this regard, capture coupled with conversion chemicals fuels provides promising solution as well store utilize renewable energy. Among many possible pathways, hydrogenation higher alcohols considered an important strategy synthesis carbon-based feedstock holds promise chemical industry. Thus, review overview advances that have been achieved recently terms catalyst design, catalytic performance, insight reaction mechanism under different experimental conditions. First, limitations provided by thermodynamics indispensability catalysts are discussed. Then, four main categories will be introduced discussed (i.e. Rh-, Cu-, Mo-, Co-based catalysts). Moreover, factors significantly influencing efficiency transformation such alkali/alkaline earth metal promoters, transition supports, precursors, conditions, explained. Finally, discusses emerging methodologies yet explored future directions achieve high ef?ciency alcohols.
